Morphing soft magnetic composites.
Magnet filler-polymer matrix composites (Magpol) are an emerging class of morphing materials. Applications of Magpol can include artificial muscles, drug delivery, adaptive optics and self healing structures. Advantages of Magpol include remote contactless actuation, several actuation modes, high actuation strain and strain rate, self-sensing and quick response. The actuation modes of Magpol, i...
متن کاملCreating porous tubes by centrifugal forces for soft tissue application.
Chemically crosslinked poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PHEMA) tubes were synthesized by applying centrifugal forces to propagating polymer chains in solution. Initiated monomer solutions, with a composition typical for PHEMA sponges, were placed into a cylindrical mold that was rotated about its long axis. As polymerization proceeded, phase separated PHEMA formed a sediment at the periphery ...
متن کاملDirected Assembly of Soft Anisotropic Nanoparticles by Colloid Electrospinning.
Directed assembly of triblock copolymer worms to produce nanostructured fibers is achieved via colloid electrospinning. These copolymer worms are conveniently prepared by polymerization-induced self-assembly in concentrated aqueous dispersion. Addition of a second water-soluble component, poly(vinyl alcohol), is found to be critical for the production of well-defined fibers: trial experiments p...
متن کاملLocally Anisotropic Wormholes and Flux Tubes in 5D Gravity
In this article we examine a class of wormhole and flux tube like solutions to 5D vacuum Einstein equations. These solutions possess generic local anisotropy, and their local isotropic limit is shown to be conformally equivalent to the spherically symmetric 5D solutions of Ref. [1]. The local anisotropy of these solutions is modeled using the technique of anholonomic frames with respect to whic...
متن کاملAnisotropic creep model for soft soils
In this paper a new anisotropic model for time-dependent behaviour of soft soils is presented. The formulation is based on a previously developed isotropic creep model, assuming rotated Modified Cam Clay ellipses as contours of volumetric creep strain rates. A rotational hardening law is adopted to account for changes in anisotropy due to viscous strains. Although this will introduce some new s...
